Song of the day, UK takeover: Tenterhook, “Chemicals”

Chemicals. There are lots of them flooding around my mind that would light up a brain scanner like a Christmas tree when I listen to the hotly-tipped and recently released debut EP by London-born Tenterhook talent (Archie Faulks).

This 19-year-old singer-songwriter has got my ears pinned back ready. And not one note on this four track beauty disappoints.

Chemicals. A song that shows a distinct and strong ability to write and sing playlist-ready indie pop music. Without losing any soul or depth, I might add.

Chemicals. It starts with a melancholy phrase, aided by a delicate touch from Archie’s falsetto vocal tones, which builds to a wonderfully catchy and melodic chorus that would have the biggest songwriters sighing with jealousy.

I always enjoy getting hold of music like this before an EP turns into a 5-album deal. So much raw potential bottled in this little song.

We’ll be on ‘tenterhooks’ in London for what comes next from this youngster.

I know, I am so punny.
